With the possibility of arrest of Bharat Rashtra Samithi legislator and Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with Delhi liquor scam gradually gaining ground, the BRS leadership is said to be under the impression that it would bring more benefit than harm to the party.
The ED authorities, who have issued summons to Kavitha to appear before them for questioning in the Delhi liquor scam, are likely to arrest her as was done in the case of other accused.
According to sources, the BRS leadership is not unduly worried about the arrest of Kavitha. In fact, it has been expecting to happen one day or the other.
And she would anyway come out on jail on bail soon and the case goes on for years.
But the party is now working on strategies as to how to get political mileage out of it.
The crucial meeting of the BRS general body to be held at Telangana Bhavan on Friday is doing to discuss how the party could take it strongly into the people about the witch-hunt launched by the Narendra Modi government at the Centre against the political rivals of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Apparently, KCR is of the view that he would be able to convince the people that the arrest of Kavitha is an attack on Telangana by the Centre and the BJP is trying to destroy the identity of Telangana.
But analysts say it is easier said than done. The people of Telangana have stopped bothering about corruption and scams.
In fact, the voters themselves have become corrupt, as they are habituated to taking money from contestants to cast their vote.
So, corruption is hardly an election issue and the voters are least interested in whether Kavitha took money in liquor scam or the BJP is witch-hunting her unnecessarily.
All they that matters is whether they got any benefit from the government or not.
“If they have made up their mind to change the government, nobody can stop the defeat of TRS. But if they want to continue KCR, all these political games hardly impact their decision making,” the analyst added.
