Why Andhra music for Telangana song, asks Kavitha

Why Andhra music for Telangana song, asks Kavitha

After losing the recent Assembly elections in Telangana, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), led by K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), is once again attempting to revive the Telangana sentiment—the party’s key strategy to regain public confidence.

Despite rebranding itself from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) to BRS, thereby shedding its regional identity, party leaders — especially KCR and his family — have started invoking Telangana pride to connect with the masses.

On Saturday, BRS Legislative Council member and KCR’s daughter, Kalvakuntla Kavitha, reignited the issue by questioning the Congress government’s choice of an Andhra music director to compose Telangana’s official song, Jaya Jayahe Telangana.

"How can the Revanth Reddy government appoint an Andhra music director for Jaya Jayahe Telangana? Many are asking why a Telangana-based composer was not chosen. It creates an impression that there are no capable music directors in Telangana," Kavitha stated in the council.

She also criticized the Congress government for removing Telangana’s cultural symbols like Bathukamma and Bonalu from the Telangana Thalli statue, arguing that these traditions define the state’s unique identity.

"Erasing such distinct traditions is unacceptable," she asserted.

However, soon after Kavitha’s remarks were aired, she faced widespread trolling on social media.

Critics reminded her that during the BRS regime, she had engaged Tamil composer A.R. Rahman to create the Bathukamma song, featuring herself in the video. The song was even directed by Malayalam filmmaker Gautham Vasudev Menon.

"Where was the Telangana sentiment then? Didn’t we have Telangana-based music composers and directors to create the song?" a Telangana activist questioned.

Similarly, a journalist pointed out Kavitha’s alleged double standards, highlighting her association with Andhra industrialist Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy in the Delhi liquor scam.
