The disclosure of alleged WhatsApp conversations between the noted conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar, who has been in Delhi’s Mandoli jail, and Bharat Rashtra Samithi legislator and Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha triggered a major uproar in Telangana politics.
Even as the opposition parties launched a scathing attack on Kavitha for her alleged involvement in the liquor scam, she issued a statement on Thursday evening stating that it was a fake chat aimed at maligning her image.
On Wednesday, Sukesh released his alleged WhatsApp chats with Kavitha and jailed Aam Aadmi Party leader Satyendra Jain, stating that it indicated a nexus between the Aam Aadmi party, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and BRS leader in the so-called liquor policy scam.
"The WhatsApp chats are in regard to Rs 15 Crore given by me to Mr Arvind Kejriwal and Satyendra Jain which was asked to be delivered to K Kavitha of BRS party in Hyderabad," Sukesh said.
The chat revealed that Sukesh was in a very codified conversation with a person whose number he had saved with the name 'Kavita Akka TRS.'
One of the messages written by the sender read, "AK bro package has to be given. It's ready with me." Chandrasekhar claimed that this package was an amount of Rs 15 Crore.
Kavitha strongly refuted the theory that it was her WhatsApp chat.
“I don’t even know who Sukesh Chandrasekhar is. I have no acquaintance with him. Yet, a section of the media wrongly linked my name with the chat only for the sake of sensation,” she said.
Kavitha wondered how BJP MLA M Raghunandan Rao had given credence to a letter purported to have been written by an economic offender and complained to the Election Commission of India.
“Based on that, BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind started indulging in mudslinging against me on social media. This is a huge conspiracy to malign me,” she said.
She described it as a deliberate attempt to target KCR whose popularity across the country was growing and stall his national mission.
“Some media houses are indulging in character assassination. But the people of Telangana are enlightened. They do not fall for such cheap tricks,” she said.
