What's Sharmila plan: Will she join Cong or not?

After triggering intense speculations over the merger of YSR Telangana Party with the Congress, party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister Y S Sharmila has gone into a silent mode.

There were speculations that Sharmila would merge her party with the Congress by May end, soon after the Karnataka elections. But nothing of that sort had happened in the last two months.

While she continued to greet Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and even AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge through her tweets, she remained silent on her plans. At the same time, she did not even deny the speculations over her party merging with the Congress.

Apparently, Sharmila has been in two minds over the proposals from the Congress high command which wanted her to play active role in Andhra Pradesh, while she wants to confine herself to Telangana.

There have been no further discussions on the issue so far and the stalemate continues. But there has been no plan of action from her since a long time; the YSRTP has gone into a virtual limbo.

Even her plans to complete the unfinished padayatra have not taken any shape. So, she continued to remain inactive, confining herself to an occasional tweet or issuing statements criticising the BRS government.

On Tuesday, Sharmila issued yet another statement congratulating Rahul Gandhi for getting his parliament membership restored.

“The Supreme Court judgement is a classic example of how justice would favour the right people,” she said.

Stating that Rahul’s return to Parliament was very much essential for the country, the YSRTP president said the entire country was waiting for him to raise his voice against the government on the floor of Lok Sabha.

“Your fighting spirit is an inspiration to many people. You have been fighting day and night for the restoration of democracy, protection of secularism, security of the country and unity of the people,” she complimented.

She called upon leaders of all like-minded political parties to come together and put up a joint fight for the security of the country and unity and integrity of the nation.

“I fully and unconditionally extend my moral support to the no-confidence motion moved against the Central government in Parliament,” Sharmila added.
