Stage is set for the entry of former Lok Sabha member from Peddapalli parliamentary constituency G Vivek into the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Vivek, who had resigned from the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and also the post of advisor to the state government on inter-state affairs before the general elections, has been contemplating joining the BJP for quite some time.
On Tuesday, Vivek met BJP national president and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and urged him to direct Governor E S L Narasimhan to invoke Section 8 of AP Reorganisation Act to protect government buildings in the wake of the TRS government's decision to demolish the existing buildings and construct new Secretariat and Assembly buildings.
Vivek said that state government in 1998 listed Errum Manzil under Archaeological sites but TRS government with malafide intention removed the building from the heritage list.
He pointed out that the existing Assembly building was in 10 Lakh sq sft area and was catering to the needs of 294 MLAs whereas for the Telangana Assembly members five lakh sft of space was enough.
He wanted the government to direct the Governor to stop the demolition of existing buildings.
At the same time, Vivek is understood to have expressed his intention to join the BJP and Shah suggested that he better wait for an auspicious day.
“May be, Vivek will formally join the BJP in the first week of August, after the end of Ashadha Maasam,” a BJP leader said.
