Even before the Congress high command has taken any decision on the appointment of new Pradesh Congress Committee for Telangana, revolt has begun brewing in the party.
Veteran Congress leader and former Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao on Friday announced that he would resign from the party if Malkajgiri MP and PCC working president A Revanth Reddy is made the party chief in Telangana.
VH, who has been strongly opposing Revanth Reddy right from the beginning, and demanding that the PCC chief post must be given to a Backward Classes leader (read: VH himself), reacted wildly to the reports from New Delhi that the high command had finalised the firebrand MP as th4e new PCC president.
“Not just me, many senior Congress leaders would quit the party and choose their own paths. It will be suicidal for the party if Revanth Reddy is made the PCC chief. Why can’t seniors like me, Jagga Reddy and Komatireddy, who have been serving the party for several years, be considered for the post?” he asked.
Describing Revanth Reddy as a strong opponent of Telangana, VH said while sincere Congress leaders had gone to jail for the sake of Telangana, Revanth was enjoying in the Telugu Desam Party.
“He has destroyed the same TDP which gave him political life. Now, he will destroy the Congress party as well. He is managing even the party high command in Delhi. What for are we continuing in the party?” the veteran leader lamented.
Stating that he had a lot of craze among the people compared to Revanth Reddy, VH wondered why outgoing PCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy was not uttering a word on the developments.
“What is the achievement of Revanth, who had got seats allotted to his followers in 47 divisions in the recent GHMC elections?” he asked.
The senior Congress leader also pointed out that Revanth had come from Rastriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) background.
“At a time when the Bharatiya Janata Party is growing in strength in Telangana, how can the Congress high command make an RSS man as the PCC chief? We can’t work under such a man,” he asserted.
He also demanded a CBI probe into the amassing of wealth by Revanth Reddy through ill-gotten means.
“I am going to write a letter to the CBI in this regard,” he threatened.
