The Telangana Rashtra Samithi is racing ahead in the local body elections in the state, capturing maximum number of mandal parishad and zilla parishad territorial constituencies (MTPC and ZPTCs).
According to the reports that last came in, the TRS had already captured more than 3,000 out of 5,659 MPTC seats and 33 out of 570-odd ZPTC seats.
The Congress is lagging far behind with just 1,000 plus MPTC seats and only three ZPTC seats. The independents are in the third position with nearly 400 MPTC seats, followed by the BJP.
If this trend continues, the TRS will sweep 90 per cent the mandal and zilla parishads in the state. This will be a lot of morale booster for the TRS which could not perform up to expectations in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
However, TRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao received a personal setback.
In Potangal village of Navipet mandal in Nizamabad district, which is the native place of KCR’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha, BJP candidate Kathroji Raju won the MPTC seat. It would mean, the voters of Kavitha’s own village chose to vote against her.
Recently, Kavitha was defeated in the hands of BJP candidate Dharmapuri Arvind in the Lok Sabha elections from Nizamabad parliamentary constituency. The latest clearly indicated that her defeat was not a conspiracy, but the people had rejected her.
Similarly, in Kodurupaka village of Siricilla district, which is KCR’s in-laws village and native of Rajya Sabha member J Santosh Kumar, the Congress won the MPTC seat, much to the humiliation of the TRS bosses.
