If the trends in the initial rounds of counting of votes in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections are any indication, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi is all set to retain its hold on the corporation.
However, as exit polls by various agencies predicted, the Bharatiya Janata Party is going to prove its growing strength and emerge as a formidable force in Telangana in the coming days.
According to the latest trends, the TRS was leading in 57 seats, BJP in 25, MIM in 30 and Congress in two seats.
The TRS has already won two seats – Yousufguda and Mettuguda, while MIM has bagged three seats – Mehdipatnam, Ahmednagar and Dabeerpura divisions.
After a gap of nearly 18 years, the elections to the GHMC were held using ballot papers, instead of EVMs. This is said to be the delay in counting of votes.
