TRS suffers jolt in MLC polls, loses Teacher MLC seat

The ruling TRS which is on a roll in Telangana by winning every election with a thumping majority for the past five years, suffered a major jolt in MLC elections on Tuesday.

The MLC elections for three seats for Teachers Constituency and Graduates Constituency were held on March 22.

The elections were held in ballot paper method. The counting of votes is being held today.

The result of Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda constituency Teacher MLC election has been declared so far.

TRS backed PRTU candidate, sitting MLC Pula Ravinder lost to Congress, Left parties backed UTF candidate Narsi Reddy.

A total of 18,885 votes were polled. Narsi Reddy was polled 8,976 votes while Pula Ravinder got just 6,279 votes.

The counting for remaining two seats in still going on and the results are expected after midnight today.

Going by current trends, the ruling TRS candidates are lagging behind even in these two seats.

The results came as a big shock to TRS at a time when crucial Lok Sabha polls are just two weeks away.

These results also shattered KCR’s attempts of making Congress-free Legislative Assembly by encouraging defections from other parties.

All the Congress MLCs joined TRS while the remaining two Congress MLCs (Shabbir Ali and Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy) are set to retire on March 31.

However, the election of Opposition MLCs now will give life to Congress in TS Legislative Council.
