Veteran Telangana leader and Telangana Rashtra Samithi’s Rajya Sabha member D Srinivas has decided to return to the Congress party after a gap of more than six years.
According to the Congress party sources, Srinivas will be leaving for New Delhi on Friday and take the membership of the Congress in the presence of party president Sonia Gandhi at the All India Congress Committee office.
Senior Congress leader Bhatti Vikramarka was also summoned to New Delhi. PCC chief A Revanth Reddy is already in New Delhi for attending the Parliament sessions. So, he would also be present at Srinivas’ joining ceremony.
For the last few months, Srinivas had been dilly dallying about his political future, as he had been virtually out of the TRS for the last two years.
Though he was not officially sacked from the TRS, he is not being invited to any of the party meetings nor is he being allowed to attend the parliamentary party meetings.
His elder son D Sanjay returned to the Congress, while his younger son D Arvind is a BJP MP. So, he had two options: either to join the BJP or return to the Congress. He had been in touch with leaders of both the parties for quite some.
But finally, he seems to have made up his mind to join the party, after Revanth Reddy visited him at his Banjara Hills residence and invited him back into the party.
Apparently, the Congress high command, too, has given a green signal to the re-entry of Srinivas into the party.
Since his Rajya Sabha membership is coming to an end in a few months, Srinivas has nothing to lose in quitting the TRS and returning to the Congress.
He wants to remain politically relevant and in case, the Congress returns to power or gets good number of MLA seats, he might come back to Rajya Sabha in 2024.
