Whenever the Telangana Rashtra Samithi leadership smells some kind of unrest among the people and feels the political climate is not conducive, it brings to the fore the Telangana sentiment to whip up passions.
The latest outburst against Andhra Pradesh government led by chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on the construction of Rayalaseema lift irrigation scheme and other projects appears to be one such tactic to trigger the Telangana sentiment all over again.
While the Telangana government has come out with a series of projects on the backwaters of Krishna river at Srisailam to counter Jagan government’s moves, his party leaders have started making aggressive comments against Andhra people and the leaders.
The comments made by state roads and buildings minister Vemula Prashant Reddy are an indication to the changed strategies of the TRS.
Prashant Reddy went on to describe the people of Andhra as demons.
“All those who are born in Lanka are demons. Same is the case with the people of Andhra,” he said at a meeting in Mahabubnagar district.
Stating that former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy had plundered the waters of Telangana by expanding Pothireddypadu head regulator, Prashant Reddy said: “Now, his son Jagan Mohan Reddy is looting the Krishna waters further with Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme.”
He warned that there would be another Telangana movement, if Andhra Pradesh did not stop unauthorised projects on Krishna river.
With his comments evoking loud protests from all political parties in Andhra Pradesh, Prashant Reddy said his comments were aimed at the rulers but not the people of Andhra Pradesh in general.
“It is not the TRS policy to blame the people. I was only referring to the injustice being meted out to the state by the YSR Congress party government,” he said.
