Top cop in trouble for holding Bandi Sanjay by collar

The Karimnagar police are in trouble over the arrest of Telangana BJP president and Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay on the night of January 2 for staging Jagaran in protest against the indiscriminate transfers of teachers and employees.

Sanjay lodged a complaint with Lok Sabha speaker alleging breach of privilege of a parliament member by the police while arresting him.

The complaint was referred to the privileges committee of the parliament, before which the MP deposed and gave all the details, demanding action against the police.

He alleged that Karimnagar police commissioner Satyanarayana held him by collar and dragged him out of his office in Karimnagar on the night. The police had gate-crashed into his office, broke open the office grills by using gas-cutters and door by crowbars to enter the premises.

Sanjay alleged that this was the second time that the Karimnagar police had manhandled him.

He told the privileges committee that even the high court had found fault with the police for their misbehaviour with him. He presented video clippings and photos to the committee.

He demanded action against commissioner Satyanarayana, Huzurabad Assistant Commissioner of Police Kotla Venkat Reddy and others for the breach of privilege of a public representative.

Sources said the Central government has taken serious note of the incident.

“There is every possibility that the Centre might bring Satyanarayana to Delhi or post him to another state cadre like Chhattisgarh or Bihar, if the privileges committee recommends action against him,” sources said.
