Even as the Bharatiya Janata Party is going all out to emerge as a strong political force in Telangana, aiming at defeating the Telangana Rashtra Samithi in the next elections, the Congress appears to be digging its own grave due to infighting among the party leaders.
The party, which was struggling to prove its existence in the state, let alone gaining strength to defeat the TRS, got rejuvenated ever since firebrand party MP A Revanth Reddy was made the PCC chief.
Whether it is for his own personal image or that of the party, Revanth Reddy has been taking up one programme or the other to keep the party in the political limelight and giving some tough opposition to the TRS.
But Revanth Reddy’s aggressive posture is not being taken kindly by so-called seniors – whether it was Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, V Hanumanth Rao, Marri Shashdhar Reddy or T Jayaprakash Reddy alias Jagga Reddy.
Some are openly criticising Revanth Reddy and some others have been complaining to the high command against his style of functioning.
Some are giving leaks to the media saying Revanth Reddy is ruining the party and that he is making money by indulging in blackmail politics.
A letter written by Jagga Reddy, who is also the PCC working president to AICC president Sonia Gandhi lodging a serious complaint against Revanth Reddy indicates the sorry state of affairs in the party. Jagga Reddy made wild allegations against the PCC chief.
Obviously, Revanth took serious note of it and referred it to party’s disciplinary committee headed by former minister G Chinna Reddy to take appropriate action.
On Friday, the disciplinary committee decided to seek an explanation from the Sangareddy MLA.
“The committee felt that Jagga Reddy has violated party discipline. If there are any differences within the party, they should be discussed in the party forums and resolve them. Leaking the party’s internal issues to the media is a breach of discipline,” Chinna Reddy said, adding that the MLA would be summoned before the disciplinary committee shortly to seek his explanation in person.
Jagga Reddy reacted strongly to Chinna Reddy’s statement.
“It was Revanth Reddy, who had violated the party discipline, not me. I don’t have objection to attending the disciplinary committee meeting, but first, it should call Revanth and take action,” he said.
He alleged that the PCC chief announced the party candidate for Huzurabad without consulting anybody.
“He has taken up the party programme at Erravelli without informing the local MLA. He announced similar programme at Bhupalpalli without informing me, though I am the in-charge of Warangal Lok Sabha constiteuncy. Do they not amount to violating the party discipline?” Jagga Reddy asked.
It is learnt several senior leaders are extending support to Jagga Reddy. If any disciplinary action is taken against him, there is going to be certain revolt in the party and it will spell doom for the party in the coming elections.
