That the Congress party will never learn from the electoral debacles it is facing and that it continues to suffer from internecine wars was once again evident from the recent by-elections to Dubbak assembly seat, which was won by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Instead of finding the genuine reasons for its defeats in the elections and making a deep introspection of why people are rejecting it, the Congress leaders have started quarrelling among themselves in the name of castes.
While senior BC leaders like former MP V Hanumantha Rao says the main reason for the party’s defeat in the Dubbak by-election was to field an upper caste leader like Ch Srinivas Reddy, a last-minute entrant into the party, others allege that the defeat was due to non-cooperation from seniors.
On Thursday, the Congress leaders once again shouted at one another playing the caste card. At a meeting held by Congress Legislature Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka in Khammam to highlight the farmers’ issues, VH demanded that the PCC post should be given to weaker sections like OBCs and SCs who had been loyal to the party for decades.
It was obvious that VH was pitching himself for the PCC chief post. However, he made an indirect attack on PCC working president A Revanth Reddy, who defected from TDP to the Congress a couple of years ago.
“Those who joined the party before elections should not be encouraged. The party high command should acknowledge the seniors and their contribution to the party,” the former MP said, in response to the slogans from the party workers in favour of Revanth Reddy.
Naturally, VH had to receive a strong retort from Revanth. He alleged that there were some leaders who were sold out to the rivals and demanded that they should be weeded out.
“It is not important as to who has come into the Congress from where and when. The high command will reward those who have the capacity and people’s support but not those who cannot even win deposits; yet, try to dominate the party,” Revanth said.
