Telangana governor holds Mahila Darbar again!

Telangana governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan, who created embarrassing moments for chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao with her whirlwind tour in the flood affected areas of Bhadrachalam on Sunday, continued with her plan of meeting different sections of people.

On Monday, Tamilisai held the second round of Mahila Darbar, where she interacted with women from various sections of the society and received petitions from them on various issues.

There were a total of 41 women seeking legal aid to fight their cases, and the Governor assured them of providing free legal assistance with the help of the Centre for Practicing Law and the Hyderabad District Legal Services Authority. 

On the occasion, the governor also extended financial assistance to three needy women from her discretionary grants. She presented the cheques to them.

The Governor was joined by National Commission for Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma and other legal experts at this interaction with the petitioners of the Mahila Darbar.

Speaking on the occasion, Tamilisai said that the Mahila Darbar interaction was aimed at offering a constructive help to the needy women and was not for creating controversy.

“There were many women with a wide ranging problems and we are sorting out the petitions and those that require the government attention, we have forwarded the same to the government for the speedy redressal,” she added.

Some of the women who took part in the event cried uncontrollably, while pouring out their woes to the Governor.

Assuring them of all necessary help within the given limitations, Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan told them not to worry as she was with them.

Referring to the traditional Bonalu festival celebrations, the Governor also stated that the women will have the blessings of the Goddess Mahankali amma.

Earlier, more than 400 women turned up for the Mahila Darbar held on July 10. 

There were a total of 193 petitions on various issues ranging from seeking medical help, financial help, legal help, family issues, land and property disputes etc.,

Centre for Practicing Law representative Rajeshwari, and Advocates Subhashini, Indira Kumari, Praveena Reddy, and Pallavi and others representing Hyderabad District Legal Services Authority have joined the Governor in this interaction with the petitioners of the Mahila Darbar.

The women advocates interacted with the petitioners on a one on one basis to know about their issues and to chalk out a plan of action to help on each individual case.
