Telangana gets Dr Jitender as new DGP

Senior IPS officer Dr Jitender has been appointed as the new director general of police (DGP) of Telangana state.

He will be replacing another senior IPS officer Ravi Gupta, who has been acting as the DGP since the last assembly elections in the state.

Orders to this effect were issued on Wednesday evening. A 1992-batch IPS officer Jitender is presently Principal Secretary to Government, Home Department and is also director of vigilance and enforcement department.

He has been posted as Director General of Police (Coordination) and will also hold Full Additional Charge of the post of Director General of Police (Head of Police Forces), Telangana.

Ravi Gupta, a 1990-batch IPS officer, has been transferred and posted as Special Chief Secretary to Government, Home Department.

He was brought in as the DGP by the Election Commission of India before the November 30 assembly elections, in place of his predecessor M Mahender Reddy.

Jitender has served in various roles including SP of Mahbubnagar and Guntur during Naxalite activity.

“The appointment of Jitender as the new DGP is a significant step in the state's law enforcement leadership and is expected to bring about positive changes in the police administration,” sources said.
