In a sensation of sorts that shows Telangana Rashtra Samithi government in a bad light, a senior Dalit IAS officer Akunuri Murali on Saturday announced his resignation from the job, one year ahead of his retirement.
Murali said he had applied for voluntary retirement from service. At present, he has been working as Commissioner of the Archives in the government, which is a loop-line post with no specific responsibilities.
He told media that the Telangana government had humiliated him by posting him in the present department without giving any powers.
“There is a general discrimination towards Dalit officers in the Telangana government in postings and promotions,” he said.
Murali said he did not want to take salary without doing any work. Therefore, it would be better to resign and do community service, he said.
The IAS officer had his own controversies in his tenure, like promotion of beef eating and criticising Brahminical administration.
He had been fighting on social issues for quite some time and said he would now have a lot of time to concentrate on the same.
