Y S Sharmila, daughter of former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, who has announced the launch of her newly-registered political outfit – YSR Telangana Party, is getting ready for a marathon padayatra in Telangana.
Sharmila made an indication to this effect to her followers who met at her Lotus Pond office to discuss the future course of action to be followed after the launch of the party on July 8, coinciding with the birth anniversary of late YSR.
She told them that her party philosophy would be based on the experiences of the people who themselves would write her party’s agenda. In a way, she is planning to follow the path showed by her brother Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.
According to sources close to her, Sharmila has not declared any date for the padayatra. Though initially it was proposed that she he could take up the padayatra immediately after the launch of the party on July 8, she is likely to take a couple of months more to make arrangements for the padayatra.
Secondly, she might not get permission to take up the padayatra from July 8 due to Covid-19 restrictions which would still be in force by then. Since hundreds of people would follow her, it might pose health risk to even her.
“Sharmila wants to build district-wise party units first before going on the padayatra, so that there would be perfect coordination when she walks through the districts. It will also help her chalk out the tour plan perfectly,” a party leader said.
In all probability, Sharmila might take up the padayatra from September 2, coinciding with the 12th death anniversary of her father. She is expected to begin the walkathon from Chevella, where YSR started his padayatra in April 2003.
