Sharmila losing grip over party? Another leader quits

It has not even been two months since Y S Sharmila, daughter of former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, launched her new political outfit – YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) and she has started receiving one setback after the other.

Ever since she launched her party, there have been only resignations from Sharmila’s party, instead of new leaders from other parties joining it.

So far, not a single leader worth mentioning has joined YSRTP till now and she is virtually waging a lone battle by touring villages.

Within hours of Sharmila announcing her jumbo state executive committee on July 31, two senior leaders – Chevella Pratap Reddy and K T Narasimha Reddy resigned from the party, alleging that party posts and positions were sold out to undeserved candidates.

On Friday, it was the turn of another senior leader Indira Shobhan Goud to call it quits from the party without mentioning any reason.

She sent a brief resignation letter to Sharmila, thanking her for giving an opportunity to her to be in the party all these days.

Indira Shobhan had been associated with Sharmila much before the launch of the YSRTP and was considered Sharmila’s right hand in the party.

She was playing a key role in organising public meetings and participating in the debates in the television channels on behalf of Sharmila.

Indira was also an eloquent speaker attracting the crowds with her punch dialogues. So, her sudden resignation has come as a rude shock to Sharmila.

Interestingly, she said she had resigned from YSRTP as it was not a platform to fight for the cause of various sections including farmers, youth, unemployed, Dalit Bahujans and other weaker sections.

“If I want to continue my fight for these sections, I should not be in the YSRTP. As per the wishes of my well-wishers, followers and people of Telangana in general, I have resigned from the YSRTP,” she said.

Though Indira Shobhan said she would take a call on her future plans shortly, sources close to her indicated that she would return to her parent party – the Congress, soon and work under the leadership of new PCC chief A Revanth Reddy.
