On Tuesday, YS Sharmila Reddy was appointed as the President of the Andhra Pradesh Congress with immediate effect.
The Congress President also designated Shri Gidugu Rudra Raju, the outgoing PCC President, as a Special Invitee to the Congress Working Committee.
Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, recently merged her YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) with the Congress on January 4.
According to a press release from the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee, KC Venugopal, "Hon'ble Congress President has appointed Smt. Sharmila Reddy as the President of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect."
"Hon'ble Congress President has also appointed Shri Gidugu Rudra Raju, the outgoing PCC President, as a Special Invitee to the Congress Working Committee. The party appreciates the contributions of Shri Gidugu Rudra Raju in his role as PCC President."
Earlier, Rudra Raju stepped down as Andhra Pradesh Congress Chief to make way for Sharmila's appointment.
In a resignation letter addressed to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rudra Raju communicated his decision to step down, according to the news agency IANS.
This move aligns with the ongoing speculation surrounding Sharmila's potential appointment as the APCC president by the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
This decision is expected to precede the simultaneous elections for the state Assembly and Lok Sabha, as per the report.
