Secunderabad brings luck to Kishan Reddy!

Secunderabad parliamentary constituency has once again proved lucky for the Bharatiya Janata Party.

G Kishan Reddy, who won the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat with a margin of 62,144 votes over the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, has been picked up by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to induct him into the Union cabinet.

In all probability, Kishan Reddy will get a Cabinet post, rather than Minister of State rank berth. Kishan Reddy will take oath as a minister in the Modi cabinet at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Thursday evening.

Kishan Reddy received a call from the Prime Minister’s Office in the morning asking him to be available at Rashtrapathi Bhavan by evening. Later, Modi and BJP national president Amit Shah also called up Reddy personally and congratulated him.

“With the blessings of people of Secunderabad and honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, I will be taking oath as Union Minister at 7 pm today. I seek your continued support,” Reddy said in a statement to media.

Secunderabad is now third time lucky to get representation in the Union cabinet. Previously, former MP Bandaru Dattatreya was inducted into the Union ministry twice – once during the Atal Behari Vajpayee regime between 1999 and 2004 and later in the Narendra Modi cabinet in 2014. However, Dattatreya was dropped from the cabinet during a reshuffle later.

A three-time MLA till recently, Reddy lost the assembly elections in Telangana held in December 2018 with a slender margin from Amberpet assembly constituency in Hyderabad.

Despite his defeat, the BJP high command chose him as the party candidate from Secunderabad, denying ticket to Dattatreya. Reddy made a remarkable comeback by winning the MP seat with a huge margin.
