Scam-tainted Kavitha plans protest in Delhi

Scam-tainted Kavitha plans protest in Delhi

Even as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is busy gathering evidence against Bharat Rashtra Samithi legislator and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter, Kalvakuntla Kavitha, in the Delhi liquor scam, she is trying to divert the attention of the national media.

On March 10, Kavitha is planning to hold a peaceful sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to demand the introduction of the Women's Reservation Bill.

She said she would lead the protest in the presence of women's organizations, representation from all 29 states, and political parties that believe in women's rights and empowerment.

She said that although there were reservations for women in local bodies, the Women's Reservation Bill seeking 33% representation of women in parliament and assemblies continues to be pending for 27 years after its first introduction in 1996.

While reminding the BJP of its manifesto promise for the 2014 and 2019 General Elections, Kavitha said, "We demand that the BJP act upon the poll promise that it made to the people of this nation both in the 2014 and 2019 elections. Table the Women's Reservation Bill in this parliament session or the next one."

She also said that the Prime Minister speaks about "Nari Shakti" from the Red Fort but does nothing for women's empowerment, which the country has understood.

Furthermore, she added that given the majority that the BJP enjoys in the Parliament, if they could push and pass the 3 black Farm Laws, they can certainly push for and pass the Women's Reservation Bill if they are willing to do the same.
