Revanth moving tactically to counter dissidence

Newly-appointed president of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee A Revanth Reddy appears to be moving in a calculated and tactical way to counter the dissidence within the party.

It is evident from the way Revanth started meeting all seniors of the party, one after the other, soon after the All India Congress Committee announced his name as the new PCC chief on Saturday night.

Within an hour of getting the news, Revanth went to the residence of veteran leader K Jana Reddy and former minister Mohd Shabbir Ali and took their blessings.

He called various other office bearers like Mallu Ravi, Jagga Reddy and J Geetha Reddy and sought their support.

On Monday, Revanth went to Apollo Hospital in Jubilee Hills and called on veteran Congress leader and former MP V Hanumanth Rao, who had been his bitter critic all these days and had even threatened to quit the party if Revanth is made the PCC chief.

Surprisingly, Hanumanth Rao received Revanth cordially and both had a hearty talk.

He congratulated the new PCC chief and extended his blessings to him.

Revanth also requested him to give suggestions and advices from time to time to run the party.

Earlier, Revanth went to the residence of former PCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah and that of former minister G Chinna Reddy and sought their blessings.

There were rumblings in the party within hours of Revanth’s appointment.

While former MLA and AICC member Kichennagari Lakshma Reddy resigned from the party, former minister and senior leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy resigned from the post of PCC election commission coordination committee chairman, citing personal reasons.

The major trouble was triggered by Bhongir MP and former minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, who lobbied for the PCC chief post till the last moment.

He declared that he would never visit Gandhi Bhavan again and would take up his own course of action.

Yet, Revanth said he would try to meet Komatireddy, Lakshma Reddy and Shashidhar Reddy and resolve the issues, if any.

“I shall take everybody into confidence in running the party. It is not a one-man show, but a collective effort,” he said.
