Revanth complains to Speaker on his arrest!

Firebrand Congress MP from Malkajgiri parliamentary constituency and newly-appointed Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president A Revanth Reddy on Monday lodged a complaint with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla against the Telangana government for his alleged illegal house arrest in the morning.

Revanth Reddy has given a call to the party leaders and cadres to stage a dharna at Kokapet in protest against the alleged irregularities in the recent auction of government lands at a lesser rate than the market price to benefit the benamis of Telangana Rashtra Samithi leaders.

After staging a dharna, Revanth was planning to take a flight to New Delhi to attend the parliament sessions commencing on Monday. However, the Telangana police kept him under house arrest at his Jubilee Hills residence, stating that he had no permission to move out.

Several other Congress leaders including Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Mallu Ravi, Balmoori Venkat (NSUI president), Md Shabbir Ali, Madhu Yashki and Mahesh Kumar Goud were also arrested while they were trying to go to Kokapat to participate in the dharna.

An agitated Revanth Reddy wrote a letter to the Lok Sabha Speaker stating that the police, under the instructions of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, had kept him under house arrest and prevented him from attending the parliament session.

He said the Congress MPs wanted to raise in Parliament the issue of selling of government lands at throwaway process by the TRS government to the relatives and friends of the ruling party leaders.

“Despite knowing the fact, that I have to attend the Parliament Session which is scheduled from today and repeated requests, to the officials concerned have obstructed my discharge of duties as an MP and voice out the people's concerns,” he said.

Stating that the Telangana government had offended his parliamentary privileges during the progress of the session, Revanth said the permission of the Speaker was absolutely necessary to arrest the parliamentarian, particularly when it is a political arrest.

He requested the Speaker to interfere in the matter and see that he attended the parliament session, besides proceeding against the authorities for affecting his parliamentary privileges.
