Probe into power deal: Fresh notices to KCR

Bharat Rashtra Samithi president and former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) received fresh notices from the Justice L Narasimha Reddy commission on Tuesday regarding power deals during his tenure.

This development comes as KCR moves the state high court to challenge the legality of the judicial probe itself.

The commission issued notices to KCR, requiring him to respond by June 27 to complaints received from various sections of the public concerning the power purchase agreement with the Chhattisgarh government during his administration.

In addition to KCR, notices were also served to former power minister G Jagadish Reddy and several others, seeking their explanations regarding the power deals made during the KCR government.

Earlier in the day, KCR approached the state high court to seek the dissolution of the Justice L Narasimha Reddy Commission, which was established by the Revanth Reddy government to investigate power purchase agreements and the construction of new thermal power plants in Telangana during the BRS regime.

KCR filed a writ petition, arguing that the commission’s formation violates principles of natural justice.

He asserted that the power purchases were conducted according to the rules and objected to Justice Reddy’s biased remarks, press conferences, and unilateral actions without conducting a thorough investigation into the allegations.
