The industrialist-cum-former MP from Khammam, Ponguleti Srinivasulu Reddy, who was recently suspended from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, has eliminated the YSR Telangana party from his list of political options for the future.
Ponguleti claimed that he has been receiving invitations from various parties, but he stated that he would not like to join the YSR Telangana Party headed by Y. S. Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.
“Yes, Sharmila garu must be very angry with me for not joining her party, but I cannot take the risk with my political future. I cannot cut my own throat by joining the YSR Telangana Party,” said the former MP.
Ponguleti was closely associated with the family of Y. S. Rajasekhar Reddy from the beginning.
He was elected as an MP from Khammam on the YSR Congress party ticket and was considered a close follower of Jagan Mohan Reddy.
However, he later defected to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (now BRS) when the YSRC ceased to exist in Telangana. After facing humiliating conditions in the BRS, he left the party and started looking for various options.
Ponguleti still maintains good relations with the YSR family. Even after quitting the BRS, he met Jagan and extended courtesies. He also met Sharmila to discuss his future plans.
However, he finally decided against joining her party, perhaps because he thought the chances of YSRTP in the Telangana elections are very bleak.
So, the former MP now has two options left: the Congress and the BJP. However, sources say that since the BJP has very little chance in the left-dominated Khammam district, he might prefer to join the Congress.
