Phone tapping case: SIT grilling TV channel owner

Media channel owner A. Shravan Kumar, who had been absconding for the past year after being named in the First Information Report (FIR) in the sensational Telangana phone-tapping case, returned to Hyderabad on Saturday.

Within hours of his arrival, he appeared before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) for questioning.

Shravan landed in Hyderabad from Dubai early Saturday morning and proceeded directly to the Jubilee Hills ACP office for interrogation.

The Supreme Court had recently granted him interim protection from arrest, directing him to cooperate with the investigation and appear before the investigating officers.

Police believe that his questioning could uncover crucial information related to the case.

Shravan is the sixth accused in the phone-tapping case. Since the FIR was registered at the Panjagutta police station on March 10 last year, he had been in hiding in the United States.

Initially, he fled to London before moving to the U.S., successfully evading SIT interrogation. A Red Corner Notice was recently issued against him.

On March 24, the Supreme Court granted him interim relief, instructing him to assist with the investigation while protecting him from arrest.

During the hearing, his lawyer assured the court that Shravan Kumar would return to India within 48 hours if required. Following that assurance, the SIT summoned him to appear for questioning on March 29.

His family in Hyderabad received the notice on March 26. In compliance with the court's directive, Shravan returned to India and appeared before the SIT on Saturday for interrogation.
