The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) exists only on paper as far as Telangana is concerned. TDP joined hands with the Congress to defeat TRS in the 2018 Assembly polls, but this plan backfired, and TDP ended up winning just two seats in 2018.
TDP candidates Mecha Nageshwar Rao from Aswaraopeta and Sandra Venkata Veeraiah from Sathupally won in 2018, but both joined TRS in April 2021. With this, TDP lost its identity completely in the Telangana Legislative Assembly.
TDP supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu is now completely confined to Andhra Pradesh politics.
TDP has its state headquarters, "NTR Bhavan," in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. However, this office always appears deserted with no activities.
Neither Chandrababu nor Telangana TDP leaders visit the office regularly. In fact, there is no prominent state-level leader for TDP in Telangana.
Despite all this, TDP has now written to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, requesting the allotment of 11 acres in Kokapet for TDP to establish an Institute for Excellence and Human Resource Development for Rs 37.53 crore, which is significantly below the market price of nearly Rs 600 crore.
TDP pointed out that since KCR recently allotted 11 acres in Kokapet to BRS for setting up a similar institute, TDP, as a recognized state party, also deserves such an allotment.
TDP has also requested KCR to allot one acre each in all 33 district headquarters, including Banjara Hills in Hyderabad, for setting up TDP district offices at the rate of Rs 100 per square yard, as KCR has allotted land to BRS in all district headquarters at this price.
It remains to be seen how KCR will respond to TDP's request.
