Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday asked the authorities to see that there was no scope for any starvation in any section of the society on account of the lockdown imposed by the government to tackle Coronavirus.
KCR instructed that the authorities should ensure supply of food to beggars found near temples and poor people in night shelters, orphanages, old-age homes and other such homes. All the beggars be shifted to night shelters to see that they do not contract the dreaded virus.
The Annapurna canteens being run by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation are providing food to the poor free of cost twice a day. Earleir, they used to provide food to the poor at the rate of Rs 5 a plate only in the afternoons.
The Telangana chief minister also asked all district collectors to provide food and shelters to migrant labourers from UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and, Chhattisgarh working with various companies and also as hamalis in rice mills.
In Andhra Pradesh, NGO activists are taking up distribution of food to the poor and destitute people with the cooperation of the police.
