Former chief minister of combined Andhra Pradesh late Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy or his children – Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy or Y S Sharmila – have no place in the hearts of the people of Telangana, as the departed leader had strongly opposed the formation of separate Telangana.
This was asserted by Telangana finance minister T Harish Rao, nephew of chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, at a meeting at Sadasivapet in Sangareddy district on Saturday.
Reacting to the new political party launched by Sharmila in Telangana, Harish Rao wondered how she would win the hearts of the people of Telangana by invoking her father’s name.
He reminded that YSR used to ridicule the demand for separate Telangana state.
“When we were demanding separate statehood, YSR ridiculed it on the floor of the assembly, saying Telangana was not a cigarette or beedi to be given just like that. He used to say that Telangana state was not possible as long as he was alive,” Harish Rao said.
He alleged that YSR had insulted the people of Telangana and made fun of their demand for the legitimate rights.
“He tried to stall the Telangana state at every stage and even raised the issue of Rayala Telangana. He even said it required the approval of 100 crore people to grant statehood to Telangana,” he pointed out.
The Telangana minister asked why the people should vote for Sharmila’s party.
“Is it because your father looted the Krishna waters depriving Telangana’s its due share? Or is it because he insulted the demand for separate state?” he asked.
