Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday approved the new official emblem and state anthem for the state government, both of which will be unveiled on June 2, the 10th Telangana Formation Day.
An official release from the Chief Minister’s office stated that Revanth Reddy had finalized the design of the new state emblem, which reflects the Telangana struggle and sacrifices.
The emblem was designed by popular artist and retired faculty member of Jawaharlal Nehru College of Fine Arts and Architecture, Rudra Rajesh.
Revanth Reddy took suggestions from his cabinet colleagues, former Telangana Joint Action Committee chairman Prof. M Kodandaram, JAC leader M Raghu, Chief Minister’s advisor Vem Narender Reddy, and others.
The new emblem will not include the Kakatiya Thoranam (Kakatiya Arch) of Warangal, which is featured in the current emblem designed by popular artist Laxman Aelay.
However, the new emblem may retain the Charminar, a popular icon of Hyderabad, along with the Lion Capital of Ashoka, the symbol of the Indian government.
The Chief Minister told reporters in New Delhi on Tuesday that the official emblem of the state should reflect the Telangana spirit.
“It will reflect the spirit of the state and its people. It will not include the Kakatiya Thoranam, but will symbolize the Sammakka-Sarakka and Nagoba Jataras, representing the struggles and sacrifices of the people of Telangana,” he said.
Meanwhile, Revanth Reddy also approved the final version of the state anthem – “Jaya Jayahe Telangana,” written by popular lyricist and singer Andesri.
While retaining the original tune of the song, the state government enlisted Oscar-award winning music composer M M Keeravani to compose the music for it.
