The Telangana Congress government, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, is facing nationwide criticism over its decision to auction 400 acres of land at Kancha Gachibowli, near the University of Hyderabad (HCU).
The move has sparked intense debate on social media and even drawn the attention of the Supreme Court, putting the Chief Minister in an embarrassing position.
The decision to sell the land — seen as a way to fill the state's empty coffers — has not only created a stir in Telangana but has also become a hot topic in neighboring Andhra Pradesh.
Amid this controversy, an open letter written by a young man from Andhra to Revanth Reddy has gone viral online.
In the letter, the youth praises Telangana society for being more socially aware and active when compared to Andhra society, which he claims remains divided along caste lines.
"As Pawan Kalyan once said, Telangana society is not driven by caste fanaticism but is a more aware and conscious society. In Andhra, people often argue along caste lines rather than focusing on broader public issues," he wrote.
He highlighted the case of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, where the Modi government is reportedly pushing for privatization of 20,000 acres of valuable land.
“In Andhra, people stay silent. No one questions Modi or Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Instead, people blame each other on caste grounds. One in every three individuals will attack the other two, but none will question the massive land loot,” he remarked.
By contrast, he said, Telangana's people hold even their own leaders accountable and react strongly to government missteps.
“Even a minor error here triggers public outrage,” he added.
The young man also offered tongue-in-cheek advice to Revanth Reddy: “If you really need money to run the government, visit former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao’s farmhouse. Share a cup of tea — he’s bound to have creative loan ideas.”
Alternatively, he suggested, Revanth could look to Andhra Pradesh for inspiration, where leaders like Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and Chandrababu Naidu have mastered the art of securing loans worth thousands of crores with ease.
“Using such support systems would be wiser than auctioning university land. This is just a humble suggestion from a well-wisher who sympathizes with your party,” the letter concluded.
