Within hours of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi losing power to the Congress in the recently concluded assembly elections, reports from various parts of Hyderabad and districts have emerged regarding missing crucial files, destruction of computer hard disks, and other important documents from various departments.
A day before the results, a fire broke out in the Telangana tourism department, resulting in the burning of several important files and computers turning into ashes. Although it is considered an accident, the police are not ruling out sabotage.
On Saturday, the Hyderabad police filed a case against the Officer-on-Special Duty (OSD) of former minister Talasani Srinivasa Yadav for allegedly destroying files, taking away key documents, and even damaging closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV cameras) to prevent the recording of the destruction.
The Congress party is suspicious of foul play regarding the shifting of files from government offices to cover up the alleged misdeeds of the previous government.
“Several important files were stolen from the office of the Animal husbandry ministry by the OSD of the previous minister. An attempt was made to shift the files in an auto from the premises of the office of the former Education Minister,” alleged a Congress leader.
He requested that all police officials in the state be instructed to maintain strict vigilance over all government offices in the state to safeguard files, as there is a possibility of individuals from the previous government stealing files and records to cover their misdeeds.
Based on a complaint from the watchman of the minister’s office, the Hyderabad police filed a case against his OSD Kalyan and four others.
“We have gathered enough evidence against those who engaged in stealing documents,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Zone) Srinivas Gupta.
