Varun, a native of Khammam in Telangana, was pursuing his MS at Valparaiso University.
On October 29, 2023, Andrade attacked him in a gym near the university, stabbing him in the head with a knife.
Varun succumbed to his injuries nine days later while undergoing treatment.
Andrade had previously sought mental health treatment, as he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Varun’s family members did not attend the court hearing virtually.
The incident left Varun’s family devastated, as he was just two months away from completing his studies.
