It has not even been 24 hours since Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy announced his resignation from the post, following the miserable show by the Congress party in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections.
Within minutes of Uttam’s resignation, the talk in the PCC was that the high command is contemplating appointing firebrand working president and Malkajgiri MP A Revanth Reddy as the next PCC chief.
And immediately, a hectic lobbying has begun at the Delhi level to prevent Revanth’s appointment.
Several Backward Classes and Scheduled Caste leaders of the party already had a meeting at a hotel in Hyderabad much before declaration of the results and decided to resist Revanth’s appointment.
They had sent a representation to the high command that a BC leader or an SC leader should be appointed as the PCC chief, in order to regain the support of the weaker sections. They argued that the Congress should not be seen as a Reddy-dominated party.
However, after the GHMC elections, another group of Telangana Congress leaders reportedly began lobbying for appointment of Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy as the PCC chief.
This group’s argument is that Komatireddy has been loyal to the party for several decades, whereas Revanth is a new entrant into the party.
Another group is arguing that appointment of Komatireddy once again results in domination of Reddys and other castes would be disgruntled. They are pitching for D Sridhar Babu, Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka or Ponnam Prabhakar or even V Hanumantha Rao.
Going by this trend, it is very clear that nobody can repair the Congress party in the near future and the party is definitely going towards a disaster!
