There are no bigger hypocrites than politicians, as they do not practice what they preach to public. They indulge in large scale corruption and other irregularities, but for the outside world, they take up protests and agitations.
Take the case of former Telangana Congress minister and presently, Bharatiya Janata Party leader D K Aruna.
For the last few days, Aruna has been shouting from roof tops, demanding that the Telangana government should implement prohibition in the state and eradicate “belt shops.”
On Saturday, too, she addressed a meeting of BJP Mahila Morcha, where she spoke about the need to implement prohibition in the state.
The latest incidents of rape and murder of women in different parts of the state were committed under the influence of alcohol, she pointed out.
Aruna alleged that Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had converted the state into “liquor Telangana” rather than “Bangaru Telangana,” as he wanted to fill the coffers with revenue from liquor. She said she would enlighten the people over the prohibition in the state.
Well, nobody will disagree with Aruna’s arguments. But the charity should begin from home. What is Aruna’s background? She comes from a family which grew politically from liquor business.
Her husband D K Bharata Simha Reddy is a known for liquor business in Gadwal and in fact, there is a talk that he controls majority of liquor shops in Gadwal district. Most of the authorised and unauthorised liquor shops in the state belonged to him.
May be, he has scaled down his business activities in the recent past due to the growing influence of Telangana Rashtra Samithi, but he was once upon a time a liquor king in the area.
Who will take Aruna’s words for prohibition seriously when her husband himself was involved in the liquor business?
