In a daring late-night operation, newly appointed Sumathi, IPS stunned both police personnel and the public by stepping directly into the harsh realities faced by women in the city after dark.

Soon after assuming charge as the Malkajgiri Police Commissioner, the IPS officer reportedly decided to personally assess ground-level law and order conditions instead of relying solely on official reports.

At around midnight, Top Cop Sumathi disguised herself as an ordinary woman and entered the busy Dilsukhnagar bus stand without any police escort beside or visible security.

Unaware of her identity, a group of miscreants allegedly surrounded her and began making vulgar remarks, asking offensive questions such as, “Will you come with us?” and “What is your rate?”

Shockingly, for nearly three hours, no patrol vehicle or police personnel arrived at the spot. The unruly men reportedly became increasingly aggressive during this period.

The officer also observed that several youngsters present at the bus stand, appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and ganja.

The situation changed only after a beat constable arrived at around 3:30 am. Moments later, an SI reportedly saluted her, revealing that the woman they had harassed was none other than Commissioner Sumathi herself. It is not clear whether she kept her team in invisible mode.

Following the operation, police detained nearly 40 offenders. They were counselled and sternly warned against substance abuse, harassment of women and indecent behavior in public places.

The incident has triggered widespread praise for the officer’s courage and commitment.

“This is the kind of policing people want to see. Salute to the officer,” commented one citizen online.

“She risked her own safety to understand women’s problems firsthand,” wrote another user.

“Every city needs officers like Sumathi madam,” a commuter remarked.

“Her action exposed the reality on our streets at night,” said another resident.

“It’s not just about responding after a crime happens. What’s needed is trapping such predators before they strike. Hats off to Sumathi madam for taking that bold step,” remarked a woman.

Overall, Sumathi has emerged as a role-model cop, with her bold operation becoming a major talking point across Hyderabad.
