Telangana Minister Konda Surekha faced backlash after linking BRS Chief KT Rama Rao (KTR) to the separation of actors Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu.
Several celebrities, including Nagarjuna, Naga Chaitanya, Samantha, Amala, Akhil, NTR, Nani, Khushbu Sundar, etc. condemned her comments, while social media users expressed their outrage.
“Women deserve to be supported and respected. Taking advantage and exploiting the personal life decisions of celebrities for the sake of media headlines is shameful,” stated Naga Chaitanya.
Amala Akkineni expressed her fury, saying Konda Surekha's comments were disgraceful. "Madam Minister, do you rely and believe people with no decency to feed you utterly scandalous stories about my husband without an iota of shame or truth? This is really shameful," said she.
In response to the uproar, Konda Surekha has since taken back her statements. She clarified that her intention was to question a leader's condescending attitude towards women, not to hurt Samantha's feelings.
However, netizens feel that while political maneuvering is common, it's inappropriate for one party leader to speak so disparagingly about another.
Surekha is facing a lot of criticism over this issue, which also reflects poorly on CM Revanth Reddy's image. His silence in the midst of this controversy has drawn further scrutiny.
In response to the controversy, KTR issued legal notices to Konda Surekha for her degrade statements.
