Senior Congress leader and Bhongir MP Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, who is known for his pinpricks against the party in general and Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president A Revanth Reddy in particular, has once again chosen to embarrass the party.
On Friday, when the nation was celebrating the 132nd birth anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar, Komatireddy demanded that if the Congress comes to power in Telangana, it should make a Dalit as the chief minister.
Apparently, he was referring to the criticism of Revanth Reddy against Telangana chief minister and Bharat Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao on going back on the promise of making Dalit as the first CM of Telangana.
“The Congress should fulfil this demand of making Dalit as the chief minister, if it comes to power in the state. However, this is my personal opinion. In the party, only collective decisions will be final. Anyways, I will take up the matter with AICC president Mallikharjun Kharge,” Komatireddy said.
Stating that the Congress party had given the party president post to a Dalit leader, the Bhongir MP said he was of firm view that the weaker sections would get the benefit only if they get the political power.
The Congress leaer denied the reports in the social media that he was quitting the party.
“There is no truth in it. My only objective is to bring the party to power in the state,” he said.
It was quite obvious that Komatireddy had raised the issue of announcing a Dalit as the chief minister if the Congress comes to power, only with a view to deny the CM post to Revanth Reddy. Since there is no chance of Komatireddy pitching himself for the post, he triggered a debate over Dalit as the CM.
Obviously, his statement will make Congress Legislature Party leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka very happy, as he is the only eligible leader in the party who is the front runner for the CM post.
