Ever since she launched the new regional party in Telangana – YSR Telangana Party early this month, its president Y S Sharmila has never concealed her utter disregard for the Congress party, though her prime target is Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
Sharmila accused the Congress of betraying and back-stabbing her father late Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, who had brought the party to power twice in the erstwhile combined Andhra Pradesh. She even said the Telangana Congress had turned into a Telangana TDP.
Surprisingly, senior Congress leaders from Nalgonda – Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, party MP from Bhongir and his younger brother Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, MLA from Munugode, have extended their support to Sharmila.
On Tuesday, Rajagopal Reddy, who is presently in New Delhi, called up Sharmila and extended his solidarity to her one-day “Nirudyoga Deeksha” (fast in support of the unemployed youth) taken up at Pullemla village of Chandur mandal in Nalgonda district.
Stating that he was supporting Sharmila for raising her voice for the unemployed youth, Rajagopal Reddy wished all success to her fight against the KCR government.
“I am happy that Sharmila entered the politics as the daughter of Rajasekhar Reddy and I extend my best wishes to her,” he said.
His elder brother Venkat Reddy, too, had extended his solidarity with Sharmila when she launched her party on July 8.
He went to JRC Convention Centre where she launched the party, paid floral tributes to the portrait of YSR and interacted with her followers.
He said he had received invitation from Sharmila for the party launch programme and wished her all the best for her political career.
The strange behaviour of Komatireddy brothers has led to the suspicion as to whether they have any plans to join Sharmila party. But it might not happen as they know they would lose their identity if seniors like them join the party of a new entrant, who has little chances of coming to power.
Their main objective is to irritate the party leadership in the state with such comments, as they feel they haven’t got their due in the party!
