It appears senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Union tourism minister G Kishan Reddy is not in a hurry to officially take over as the Telangana state BJP president, though it has been more than a week since he was appointed in the post.
There were reports that Kishan Reddy was reluctant to take over as the Telangana BJP chief in place of Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay and that he is more interested in continuing in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi cabinet.
But he was forced to accept the post under pressure from the high command. He did not speak to the media first, but later said he would abide by the party decision and would take charge as the BJP state chief after Modi’s public meeting at Warangal on July 8.
Even after five days, Kishan Reddy has still not taken charge as the state BJP chief. Now, on Thursday, there was a communique from his office saying that he has left for the United States of America to take part in the United Nations World Tourism Organisation conclave, to be held on Friday.
According to this media release, Kishan Reddy would address a meeting of high-level political forum of the UNO at New York on Friday. He will be the first Indian tourism minister to address the meeting.
“He is attending the conclave in the capacity of G-20 nations’ tourism chairman. He would also be attending a meeting organised by Indian consulate in the US. From there, he would be going to London to return to India on July 19,” the release said.
During his US tour, Kishan Redy would also tour various historical museums in the US on July 14 and 15. He would hold discussions with representatives of various international tour operators, apart form attending the meeting of Indian diaspora. He would also address a meeting of Overseas Friends of BJP, the release added.
