Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s biggest achievement during his tenure is the construction of the mighty Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project at a cost of over Rs 80,000 crore.
But, KCR feels he has not got the kind of mileage he was expecting from his achievement.
He could not invite the media for the inauguration of the project in June last, because of the logistics constraints.
So, he has now decided to take a large contingent of over 300 media persons from electronic and print media, including editors and top representatives, to Kaleshwaram project site in the last week of July or first week of August.
A CMO official said the project, which is the largest multi-stage lift irrigation scheme in the world, has started pumping water from Pranahita river from Medigadda barrage into Annaram and Sundilla barrages which are brimming with 20 tmc ft of water.
“It has resulted in water flow in Godavari river to an extent of 115 km,” the official said.
In order to showcase the progress, KCR suggested that the media persons be taken to the project site.
“While editors and important media representatives will be flown in three special helicopters, other media representatives will be taken to the project site through special buses,” the CMO official said, adding that the tour would be scheduled depending on the climatic conditions.
