Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and his cabinet colleagues are making tall claims over the steps being taken to contain the Coronavirus epidemic, but the number of positive cases continue to mount with every passing day, say the opposition leaders.
First, the chief minister tried to brush it as a minor incident saying it is a normal viral disease which can be cured with paracetamol.
Later, he started talking tough but claimed that by April 7, the state will become Corona free, as the government had traced all the Delhi returnees and their contacts; and so, there is no possibility of any new cases.
But the cases started shooting up after April 5 and the deadline was further extended. Recently, health minister Etela Rajender said by April 22, there would be no Corona virus in the state. A day later, KCR extended it to April 25.
Now, the TRS leaders and the chief minister are saying that the virus is fast spreading in the state, particularly in Hyderabad.
KCR who claimed that all the Markaz returnees were sent to quarantine has asked the officials to trace all the people who went to Delhi. He is now saying every day, 1000-1100 tests would be conducted.
With regard to relief measures, too, the government is said to be lagging behind. When this was pointed out by the Congress leaders, TRS ministers have started attacking them.
TPCC leader G Narayana Reddy said that the Congress party has been playing the role of a constructive opposition by raising genuine questions in the public interest.
However, TRS Ministers and leaders have been targeting the Congress party to divert people's attention from their failures.
"Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao and all his ministers have become masters in deceiving the common people with false promises and fake claims. Whenever they fail to answer the questions being raised by the people, they blame the Congress party for weird reasons," he said.
He pointed out that finance minister T Harish Rao himself had admitted that 12 kg rice per person for White Ration Card holders has been distributed to only 87% of beneficiaries. It clearly means that more than 10 lakh BPL families were yet to get the rice which was promised to them on March 22.
He said instead of apologising to the poor people for delay, TRS leaders were trying to divert their attention by giving political statements.
