TRS, which has strongly opposed the recently enacted legislations of the NDA government on agriculture sector in Parliament, appears to have decided not to implement the same in the state.
On Wednesday, TRS president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao instructed the officials to see that the government purchase the entire stock of paddy, red gram and cotton directly from farmers.
As per the new central acts, farmers can sell their produce anywhere in the country and not necessarily in the government market yards. But KCR asked the farmers not to go anywhere, as the government itself will come to their villages and purchase their produce.
What is more, the government will ensure minimum support price to the farmers for their produce.
“The entire quantity of paddy produced by farmers this season will be purchased by the government departments at the village-level itself. Since there is still Corona fear lingering, various government agencies would be sent to the villages to purchase the entire paddy produced by farmers,” KCR announced.
He asked the officials concerned purchase the entire paddy in the State by setting up 6,000 purchasing centres and ensure that every grain of paddy is purchased. Similar purchases would be made for cotton and red gram, he said.
He reiterated that the government’s aim was to stand by farmers at every stage from extending financial assistance for crop investment to purchasing the produce.
This rainy season, there was a record cultivation of crops in Telangana in 134.87 lakh acres. Of this, paddy was cultivated in 52.77 lakh acres, cotton in 60.36 Lakh acres and red gram in 10.78 lakh acres.
