Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter and former Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha is all set to get her dream of becoming a cabinet minister fulfilled next month.
With the Election Commission on Friday announcing the schedule for the conduct of elections for the MLC seat under Nizamabad local bodies’ constituency, decks have been cleared for Kavitha’s election to the state legislative council in the second week of October.
According to the calculations, the election of Kavitha is just a formality, as the TRS enjoys majority of the MPTC and ZPTC seats in Nizamabad and so, she can defeat the Congress and the BJP candidates easily.
Ever since Kavitha had lost the MP seat in 2019 general elections, she had been keeping away from active politics in the party though she had been making her presence felt in the public now and then.
It was precisely why KCR decided to field her in the MLC elections, so that she can active in politics again.
However, this is only a by-election to the MLC under Nizamabad local bodies’ quota, necessitated due to disqualification of sitting MLC Dr Bhupati Reddy who got elected in December 2015.
As such, even if Kavitha is elected, she would have the term only till December and she might seek a fresh election then. Once she gets elected, KCR is expected to induct her into the cabinet, which he might expand by Dasara festival.
Once Kavitha become a cabinet minister, she will play active role in the TRS and if KCR takes to national politics in 2023 or 2024, she might take over as the TRS working president and her brother K T Rama Rao becomes the chief minister of Telangana.
