After TRS president and CM KCR’s son KTR and nephew Harish Rao, it will now be his daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha who is most likely to get into the state cabinet, if the speculations in the political circles are to be believed.
On Monday, Kavitha won the MLC elections, as expected, from Nizamabad local bodies’ constituency with a huge majority. The polling was held on December 9 and counting of votes took place on Monday.
Out of 823 votes polled in the constituency, Kavitha got 728 votes, which accounts for 88 per cent of the total polled votes.
She polled 531 out of 600 votes in the first round and another 197 votes in second round. Her nearest candidate Lakshmi Narayana of Bharatiya Janata Party polled only 56 votes. Thus, Kavitha got a majority of 672 votes over the BJP candidate.
Subhash Reddy of the Congress could get only 29 polls and another 10 votes were declared invalid. Needless to say, both the Congress and the BJP candidates lost their deposits.
The bye-elections the MLC seat from Nizamabad local bodies’ constituency were necessitated following disqualification of sitting MLC R Bhoopathi Reddy from the TRS to the Congress in December last.
Soon after her declaration as the MLC, the TRS workers fired crackers and raised slogans in support of the demand for Kavitha being made a minister in KCR cabinet.
“She is going to be in the KCR cabinet shortly,” an MLA said.
However, there is no vacancy in the cabinet of KCR at present, as it is completely full as per the norms. So, if Kavitha has to become a minister, one of them should be dropped to accommodate her.
The question is which minister will face the axe. Ministers like Vemula Prashant Reddy are ready to step down to accommodate Kavitha, but KCR may not drop him. Instead, he might look for scapegoats like Eatala Rajender or any other minister.
It remains to seen who will pave way for Kavitha in the cabinet, if KCR wants to take her.
