Kalvakuntla Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Rashtra Samithi president and chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, always tries to maintain her identity in politics and wants to prove that she is a people’s leader.
On Monday, Kavitha played the role of an opposition party leader while delivering her maiden speech in the state legislative council, for which she got elected as an MLC and took oath as the member recently.
She raised her voice in the council in support of the MPTC and ZPTC members across the state, who have been facing several problems despite assurances given by the TRS government.
Bringing their problems to the notice of state panchayat raj minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, she said the government should come to the rescue of the elected representatives of the local bodies.
Kavitha said the MPTCs and ZPTCs do not have even chairs to sit in their chambers in the mandal and zilla parishad offices.
“Though new mandals have been created, the state government has not provided offices for them. How can the elected representatives discharge their duties?” she asked.
She also pointed out that the MPTC and ZPTC members did not have powers even to hoist flags in the local schools.
“The government should give them powers, even if it requires amendments to the panchayat raj act,” she said.
The TRS leader reminded that the chief minister had allotted an amount of Rs 500 crore to the local bodies, though the Centre had imposed cut in the funds to the local bodies under 15th finance commission.
“It should be spent to provide basic facilities to the mandal and zilla parishads,” she said.
For quite some time, the MPTCs and ZPTCs have been agitating demanding that the government solve their problems.
They even threatened to contest the by-elections in Huzurabad in big numbers to highlight their problems and even criticised the KCR government.
Under these circumstances, Kavitha taking up their cause and bringing their issues to the notice of the government has created ripples in the ruling party.
However, the TRS leaders say Kavitha has played the role of a true public representative and that would only fetch mileage to the ruling party/
