Contrary to reports, the Enforcement Directorate authorities on Saturday released Bharat Rashtra Samithi MLC and Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter Kalvakuntla Kavitha after nine hours of intense questioning.
Kavitha entered the ED office in New Delhi around 11 am and left after 8 pm, driving straight to her residence. As per the rules, investigating officers should not confine a woman for questioning beyond 6 pm.
However, the ED authorities did not release Kavitha until 8 pm and continued to question her in connection with her alleged role in the Delhi liquor policy scam. They gave her an hour's break for lunch around 3 pm but continued questioning afterward.
Though Kavitha did not reveal anything, sources said the ED authorities might question her again on Monday to elicit further information about the Delhi liquor scam.
Sources said she was questioned separately and also along with the other accused, Arun Ramachandra Pillai and Sameer Mahendru.
During the interrogation, the ED authorities also seized her personal phones. She was forced to send her personal staff to fetch her official mobile phones as well.
At one stage, there was tension in the BRS camp as the police suddenly stepped up security around the ED office and Kavitha’s residence. The police dispersed the BRS workers who had gathered at these places in large numbers.
This led to talk that the ED authorities might arrest Kavitha at any moment. But finally, she came out around 8 pm, waving to the waiting crowds outside the ED office. The crowds raised slogans in support of her and the BRS.
