India Today predicts hung assembly in Telangana

As the elections to the Telangana state assembly are fast approaching, the survey agencies, commissioned by various media organisations, are conducting quick opinion polls to know the mood of the people.

Surprisingly, every survey is predicting an edge to the Congress and a fall in the BRS vote and seat share, but nobody is able to predict exactly what the mood of the people is as different surveys are coming out with different predictions.

On Friday, India Today-C-Voter has come out with its own survey predicting that the Congress is leading in Telangana over the Bharat Rashtra Samithi, but there would be hung assembly with no party getting absolute majority.

While the Congress has gained 11% vote while the BRS will see a fall of 9%. The Congress thus will get Cong 39% vote share with 54 seats, while the BRS with 38% vote share will get 49 seats. The others will get eight seats and the BJP will also get eight seats.

Apparently, the others might include seven of the AIMIM and one by the BSP. If the MIM supports the BRS, which it will, the strength of the BRS will go up to 56 and it may not be difficult for KCR to lure another four or five MLAs from the Congress as he always did in the past. Who knows, some MLAs from the BJP might also jump into the BRS to give it absolute figure.

Another survey agency by name the Regional Outreach Survey (ROS), however, has predicted that the Congress will sweep North Telangana and will end up with 75 seats.

The quick survey pointed out that Rahul Gandhi had announced 18% and 12% reservations to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes respectively. He had also announced that Sammakka Saaralamma Jatara will be declared a National Festival.

The effect of these announcements will be in around 37-40 seats of the region and it will help the Congress.

According to ROS, the vote percentage of North Telangana will be: the Congress 44%, the BRS 41% and the BJP 10%.

Watch out for more surveys in the coming days.
