Illegal visa case: BJP MP gets reprieve in court

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Adilabad MP Soyam Bapu Rao on Wednesday got the clean chit from a special court in Hyderabad in connection with a case filed against him on the charges of sending people abroad on illegal visas.

The court said the investigating agencies had failed to produce any evidences to prove that Bapu Rao had sent the people to foreign countries on illegal visas. It struck down the case against him and declared him not guilty.

In 2007, the Hyderabad central crime station police filed a case against Bapu Rao, who was then an MLA from Boath constituency, alleging that he had misused his passport and Visas to send several people to other countries illegally.

A charge sheet was filed against him 2017. The case was shifted to a special court trying the criminal cases against MLAs and MPs in Hyderabad in 2019. The court cross examined 33 witnesses in the case. Senior lawyer V Surender Rao argued the case on behalf of Bapu Rao.

After a lot of prolonged hearing, the special court declared him not guilty, as there were not enough evidences against him.

Several BJP workers, followers and Adivasi Associations hailed the judgement in favour of Bapu Rao.
